About

My name is Jen Hughes, I study English Literature and Film at Glasgow University and I’m a regular contributor to the Diary of a Young Writer blog by Outlet Publishing, and a cohost of Words and Music (aka Tinhut Tuesdays).

I have been writing stories and poems from an early age- pretty much since I could write sentences!  I have a bad habit of having  an unrealistic number of creative projects going at any given time but this is merely a combination of a crazy work ethic inherited from her mother and grandfather, as well as an overactive imagination.

I read out my poems and stories at open mike nights and storytelling events in my area. In the past, I’ve performed as part of the Haverin’ Hoolie tent at Burnsfest, at the Goddamn Debut Slam and at Last Monday’s At Waterstones. My poetry tends to be comedic, though every now and then I’ll break out something deep and meaningful.

I’ve had my short works published in various online journals and website including Paragraph Planet, Pulp Metal Magazine and the McStorytellers to name a few. I’ve also had a rehearsed reading of my short play performed at Toonspeak2, which was a surreal experience I probably should blog about at some point.

If you’re interested in collaborating or submitting some pictures to accompany some of my stories, please go to the Contact page.
